In the summer of 2008 I was browsing through an email digest that I get regularly from my subscription to Flylady.net, a website dedicated to home organization. Although Flylady sends out emails everyday, I only read them once and a while. I just happed to be reading one when the topic was cleaning out your closet by donating your wedding dress to a ministry called “Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep.” Intrigued by the notion of donating a wedding dress, I clicked on the link to learn more about this ministry. There I saw many pictures of wedding dresses that were turned into these precious burial gowns for newborns. I also saw a forum on the site where two women were talking about a mother, Tracy, who was still pregnant and a website dedicated to her terminally ill unborn baby. So I clicked on Darcy’s website.
From there I went to the blog section, where Tracy was writing letters to her unborn baby. I immediately was hooked and had to know the whole story. I started at the beginning and worked my way through all of the posts. I quickly learned that Tracy, was a strong Christian with an amazing faith in God. I personally had never seen such a faith. Also, I was deeply moved by how much she adored her sweet baby, Darcy. Even though Tracy’s entries were heartbreaking, I was encouraged to see an unborn life being valued, honored, cherished and celebrated. Something so rare in this culture. Tracy also explained beautifully her faith in simple terms while conveying her honest emotions. And the pictures of the Ramos family on the blog were beautiful. Through the photos it seemed that the Ramos family had alot of personality, full of joy and fun in spite of their circumstances. As I continued to follow Tracy’s blog and started to think that this story would make a great book that could encourage so many others. What Tracy wrote for Darcy’s funeral service was so powerful I felt compelled to contact Tyndale House Publishers. I worked there about six years prior as a graphic designer and still knew some people there. Books are NOT published this way...not through me for sure. This was certainly and act of God and I give him all the praise, because He clearly orchestrated this whole thing. I am just truly blessed to watch it all unfold. Tyndale also graciously allowed me to design the interior of the book too, which was a special blessing to me.
